Types of Tobacco

Four main types are identified according to the method of curing (dying)

  1. Flue-cured: also known as “flue-cured Virginia” or just “Virginia”. After the US state where this method of curing using artificial treat was first propounded and “bright” because of its luster and color.
  2. Air-cured: this includes barley, cigar and light and dark air-cured tobaccos. Its cured is ambient air with minimal artificial control of humidity.
  3. Fire-cured: a similar process to cures this type flue-cured, expect that open smoldering fires to give the product its characteristic smoked aroma and flavor supply heat.
  4. Sun-cured: oriental tobaccos belong to this type. The strong flavor and tastes is developed in the first phase of curing and then retain by drying leaves outside in the sun.
