Authority Attends Consultative Meeting with Alcohol Manufacturers and Distributors
On 12th March 2024, the National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) participated in a crucial consultative meeting with alcohol manufacturers and distributors. This gathering, convened by the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, brought together various government agencies and stakeholders with the aim of fostering intelligence and information sharing between the alcohol manufacturing industry and law enforcement entities.
Led by the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Prof Kithure Kindiki, and the Ministry's Permanent Secretary, Dr. Raymond Omollo, CBS, the meeting reaffirmed the government's stringent measures announced on 6th March 2024 to combat illicit alcohol. These measures, which included suspension of all liquor manufacturing licenses, were emphasized by Prof Kindiki as "irreversible and non-negotiable."
Addressing the forum, Prof Kindiki underscored the gravity of the situation, stating, “This matter is a serious threat to our national security, and unless we collectively reign in on this matter, Kenya’s future will be altered drastically.”
Dr. Anthony Omerikwa, NACADA Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the importance of cooperation from alcohol manufacturers, urging them to share information with the Authority to eradicate counterfeit products from the market.
Furthermore, NACADA Board Chair, Dr. Rev Stephen Mairori, EBS, called on all stakeholders to support the initiative to smoothen curves in the alcohol manufacturing industry and thus free the country from harmful killer drinks.
