NACADA Supports Healthy Lifestyle; Sponsors The Busia Border Marathon
The National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) actively backs initiatives that promote healthy lifestyles and drug-free communities. On March 31, 2024, NACADA showcased its commitment to this cause by participating in the Busia Border Marathon as part of a government delegation.
The event attracted participants of all ages from Busia and its environs, including children as young as 8 years old. The marathon, featuring long and short-distance races, was graced by the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management Honorable Moses Kuria, HSC, leaders from both Kenya and the neighboring Uganda, NACADA's CEO, Dr. Anthony Omerikwa, MBS, and others.
Participants competed for medals, certificates, and cash prizes, encouraging their involvement in physical activity. Additionally, the marathon facilitated health promotion through a free medical camp provided by the Kenya Red Cross, offering check-ups and health advice.
NACADA utilized the event to raise awareness about alcohol and drug abuse, engaging with participants and spectators. Before the marathon, the Authority also conducted a roadshow campaign in Busia to educate the community about substance abuse risks.
Through its participation, NACADA reaffirmed its commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and drug-free communities. By leveraging sports to foster physical fitness and community engagement, NACADA plays a crucial role in steering youths away from drugs. The Busia Border Marathon exemplifies the positive impact sports can have in promoting holistic well-being and resilient communities.
